Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we show the importance of having a developed Market for Technology and how innovation affects countries’ economic development. Second, using the main innovative indicators, we describe the current Market for Technology in Chile and discuss its possible impact on the country’s economic development.

Author Biographies

Goretti Cabaleiro, Alberto Hurtado University

Goretti Cabaleiro is Assistant Professor at Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Faculty of Business and Economics, in Santiago de Chile. She got a PhD in Economics for Business and Quantitative Methods (Cum Laude) at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid under the supervision of Andrea Fosfuri, professor in Bocconi University (Italy). Her primary research areas are Technology and Innovation Management and Business Strategy. In particular, she is interested in understanding the determinants and the consequences a firm’s decision to license out its intellectual property to other companies. In her dissertation, a recurrent theme has been the relationship between the licensing-out strategy and firm performance (both before and after licensing-out). In addition, she has also tried to shed light on the factors affecting the licensing trade-off (i.e. the balance between benefits and costs associated with a licensing decision) and to explore in detail how the licensor’s bargaining power affects the returns from licensing.

Felipe Salce, Alberto Hurtado University

Felipe Salce is Research Assistant at Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Faculty of Business and Economics, in Santiago de Chile. He got a M.A. in Economics at Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Santiago de Chile, and Georgetown University in Washington D.C. United States of America under the supervision of Eugenio Giolito, professor at Universidad Alberto Hurtado. His primary research areas are Microeconometrics and Macroeconometrics. In particular, he is interested in economy applied to public policies, mainly education issues. In his thesis works he investigates about possible determinants of socre in Simce test and dropout in school.
